A New Desk

This month, life threw a delightful wrench into my writing routine — I finally replaced my desk. After over a year of searching (and wistfully eyeing some Louis XIV beauties far beyond my budget), I stumbled on the perfect find in a thrift store. It’s a bit bigger than my old desk, but with shallower drawers, which meant a full re-organization of my writing supplies.

That old desk and I shared a lot of history — 15 books and 3 short stories were born on its surface. When I passed it along to its new owner, I told him I hoped it would inspire his creativity as much as it had mine. Moving both desks in and out of my office took a small, determined team… and a good deal of muscle!

Book News

Witch’s Quest is finished and in the capable hands of my first reader and editor. I’ll be polishing it for release by the end of the month. (Here’s your pre-order link!) As a dyed-in-the-wool pantser, I never quite know how my stories will end, and for a while I worried this one might close with a sigh instead of a bang. But at the 11th hour, inspiration struck — and I’m thrilled with where it landed.

A Carved Surprise

In non-writing news, I hired a chainsaw artist to turn an ugly tree stump into something magical — a piece of art designed to make neighbors smile and children want to run up and touch it. I sketched my idea, sent it to the artist, and the transformation was amazing. I’ve attached his video so you can see the carving come to life.

On the Horizon

Next up is Jill Quint #16 — Sable Point Murder. Set in the chill of Wisconsin (my own neighborhood, in fact), the story begins when a murder rocks Jo’s quiet street. I’ve been walking the dog past a deserted house for months, imagining the plot, and now it’s ready to take shape. I plan to have the book finished before the end of the year — maybe even by October.

Supporting a Friend

I’m also cheering on a writer friend launching her first novel on her own website. It’s a romantic suspense — just 99¢ — with a single, not-too-spicy scene. If you love suspense with a hint of romance, here’s the link to her book.

Cheers,
