Authors are Introverts

Writer: Alec PecheAlec Peche

When I worked in the corporate world, we did a Myers-Briggs test, which assesses the test taker’s personality. I came back as an introvert in a room full of extroverts. I guess even back then, I was suited to being an author. Being an introvert doesn’t mean that you’re necessarily shy, rather it means that being around a bunch of people is exhausting. We introverts need to crawl back in our caves to recharge.

I did my first in-person book event in more than two years this past Sunday. It was exhausting smiling and talking to strangers about my books and the origin of my story ideas. The event was successful for me but when I got home I was brain dead and gave a few thoughts to going to bed at 5, lol. Fortunately, the companionship of my dog and cat, and then a round of a card game called “Hand and Foot” on my IPAD recharged my batteries enough to make it to bed at a more suitable time.

On a completely different topic, this winter has been a drag. As I write this newsletter, it’s pouring outside with 20mph winds and it's expected to turn into snow later. The last two days, the highs were high 30s to mid-40s. I was outside raking my snow in an attempt to help it melt further and urge Spring to arrive. Next week we’re supposed to have a day near 60. My pets can’t wait for that to happen. I bought an outdoor heated cat kennel worried about my night hunting cat. She was leaving gifts of moles, mice, and the occasional rabbit last year. She loudly meows to be let outside – so loud that I can’t sleep through the racket. However, her cat nose has a temperature gauge in it and she knows when to stay inside at weeks on end when it would be dangerous to be outside. So I’ll be donating that kennel to an animal rescue organization.

I’ve started work again on Witch’s Medicine, the second book in the Stephanie Jones series. The first book hasn’t done well, but it’s a passion project so I’ll finish that book and then decide whether to do a third book.

Cheers,

Goals for 2025

I hope everyone had the New Year celebration they were hoping for—I was in bed with a good book by 9p and there were no nearby fireworks...
