February Winter Activities

Writer: Alec PecheAlec Peche

A new Damian Green series story is arriving February 27. I’m way behind schedule thanks to an unexpected winter bout of bronchitis, but I’ll cross the finish line no matter what. You can preorder Emerald Bay Murder here now!

Winter sports in Wisconsin have been fascinating to watch. The water in front of my writing space window has shown me how to bicycle on ice (wear a motor cross helmet), how to do donut holes on the ice in a Volvo, how not to ice fish (my lake bottom is sandy even a mile out) so there were no fish, and how to watch the Coast Guard cut the ice for a large ship entering or leaving the harbor. I’ve added some pictures for your amusement.

February is gloomy with lots of overcast days and snow. I could see my dead lawn up till this last Sunday. Now I won’t see it again probably for a month. This is my dog’s first winter in snow. I have a large, enclosed fence and he does zoomies in the snow. He can also more easily spot red foxes and squirrels to chase against the white surface. He will start limping when we go on walks if he gets too much snow in his delicate paw pads and limps over to me to clean then out. He does not like to poop on snow, so I cleared a path for him inside the fence so he can poop on dead grass. The things I do for my beloved dog, lol.

It is also my cat’s first experience with snow. She’s a nighttime serial killer of small animals. She’ll wake me up at 4 in the morning to go out hunting. I’ll open the door, and she’ll hunch backwards and give the death stare to the cold and refuse to go. She goes to sleep every night thinking spring will arrive overnight.

March will be a slow writing month for me as I need to focus on taxes. With a cross-country move, 2 states to file, and the death of a parent, my taxes are going to be more complicated than usual. I’ll get some writing done, but I’m not yet setting a release date for my next book – Witch’s Quest.
