Dear readers,
I am a day late sending this out. I was up to the wee hours of the morning putting the finishing touches on my third Michelle Watson book—WHERE DID SHE GO?
I hope you’re having a great holiday season. I have a very small family and a mother in ill health and old age who doesn’t know that the holidays are upon us despite all the signs. This is fine. She’s comfortable and pain-free and that’s the only gift I need.
I was thinking back about my New Year’s celebrations over the decades. For 16 years, I lived a block away from the Rose Parade route, and every New Year’s Eve, the floats would line up around 11 PM and I would go with friends and family with a glass of wine to sniff the floats up close and celebrate with strangers the coming of a new year. I’ve also been lucky enough to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Times Square, London, and Venice with friends. This year I’m happy to celebrate with my dog and comfortable sweats, lol. Here's Peace on Earth in my house in the picture below.

The Michelle Watson series is finished. It’s the first series I’ve closed out and I have to say I don’t know how to do that—I rewrote the ending at least four times. Jill Quint and Damien Greene will have further books written in the series. In 2023, I’ll be starting a new urban fantasy series featuring a Jill Quint-like heroine and some Fae people. My premise is a 40-something doctor working in an emergency room in the Sacramento area starts seeing weird injuries come into her hospital. With the help of a wizard, she discovers that a portal has been opened in the Lake Tahoe area due to a misadventure by the ski patrol and dynamite during avalanche control. I know that some of you probably won’t follow my writing into that setting, but I hope you’ll give it a try. Regardless you'll have fresh material in the other two series.
One of my goals for next year is to increase my writing from four books a year to six. I don’t know if I’m capable of that, but I hope so. I’ve got about 15% of the next Jill Quint book called Mint Death written. It’s going to be my focus next week.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year,
Alec
